CYCLING ROUTES
Discover the area by bike! The regions Bommelerwaard and Rivierenland have a network with good cycling paths. Numerous bicycle routes run through the region and are connected with various cycle junctions. Van der Valk Hotel Zaltbommel-A2 is located at junction 64.
Many cycling routes are available. We believe the following routes are worth a visit!
Cycling route between Maas and Waal | 34 km
This bicycle route runs along the two largest rivers of the Netherlands: the Maas and the Waal. Exactly between these rivers, your tour starts in Zaltbommel. During this route, you will pass mills, meadows and water. You will also see evidence of the rivers that left traces behind after floods and dyke breaches.
Cycling route Grote Rivierenroute | 37 km
The Great River Route brings nature and culture together. The route will lead you to recreational area De Zandmeren Kerkdriel. There is a harbor, nice restaurants and rich opportunities for water sports. If you continue the cycle tour, you pass Ammersoyen Castle, one of the best preserved medieval castles in our country! Do you like birds? Then enjoy the Hurwenensche floodplains in the outskirts of Ammerzoden.
Cycle route Straight through the Bommelerwaard | 43 km
This cycle route leads you along the waters of the Bommelerwaard, the beautiful nature and of course, along the cherry orchards. You cycle on the beautiful dikes of the Waal and the Maas. There you enjoy unique views of the floodplains, castles and beautiful dyke villages. A unique route through a beautiful part of Gelderland!
Fortress route 83 km
This special route leads you along the forts of Rivierenland. Discover the historic landmarks of the New Dutch Water Line, mysterious water cellars and half-hidden bunkers. Along the Dutch Waterline there are about 50 forts and some of them are located in Rivierenland. You will pass the Werk aan het Spoel forts, Fort Everdingen, Bunker 599, Fort Werk on the Spoordijk, KunstFort Asperen, GeoFort, Fort Vuren and Batterij onder Brakel.
RENTING BICYCLES
You can rent (electric) bicycles at our reception desk. The bicycle rental is in collaboration with the local company Juijn Fietsbeleving. A regular bicycle costs € 20.00 per day and an electric bicycle costs € 30.00 per day. Multi-day rental is possible.
BICYCLE STORAGE
Do you bring your own bicycle? Park your bike in the covered and locked bicycle shed next to the hotel entrance. The bicycle parking is equipped with camera surveillance. Therefore, you can safely leave your bicycle behind.
