An inspiring family

Van der Valk Hotels & Restaurants is the biggest hotel concern from the Netherlands. For more than 150 years of experience, our Valk generation built to our family company. With our hotel in Zaltbommel, we have opened the 66th hotel. General manager is Boukje van der Valk. Her mother, Marijke, was in charge of the decoration and the design. Boukje is also in charge of Hotel Van der Valk Hotel Uden-Veghel.

In 1862, Nicolaas van der Valk started café De Gouden Leeuw on his farm in Voorschoten. Nicolaas died in 1902 and in 1929, his youngest son Martien bought the café from his mother. Because the café got demolished due to a widening of the road in 1939, Martien van der Valk and his wife Rie built a new restaurant with eight hotel rooms next to it. Thanks to hard work, a hospitable and homely approach and many innovations, De Gouden Leeuw was once again a great success. This resulted into more establishments built up with their eleven children after World War II.

Nowadays, the grand- and great-grandchildren of Martien and Rie are in charge. The Van Der Valk chain currently has 68 branches in the Netherlands, 14 in Germany, 11 in Belgium, 2 in France, 1 in Spain, 1 in Bonaire and 1 in Curaçao. In addition, building plans for various new hotels are ready. The guest's comfort is always the main focus point.

The fundament of the successful 'Van der Valk formula' is still based on Martien and Rie's vision on hospitality. Their attitude and entrepreneurial spirit is an example for the younger Valk-generation(s). They passionately follow the footsteps of their ancestors, resulting into establishments that keep up with the times, but never lose the focus on hospitality.
