ARISE OF LOEVESTEIN CASTLE
On a unique location in The Netherlands between the rivers ‘Maas’ and ‘Waal’, knight Dirc Loef van Horne built this castle in 1361. The location was chosen thanks to the strategic point to take toll. In 1572, the castle was used as a state prison. Later on, Loevestein Castle has become part of the Dutch Water line.
THE STORY OF HUGO DE GROOT
Did you that Loevestein Castle someday became the decor of a controversial historical event? In the period the castle served as a state prison, Hugo de Groot had a life sentence. After being captured for 2 years, he escaped on March 22 of 1621….. in a book case! In this castle, the genius escape will be explained in detail.
