BIGGEST THEME PARK
Based on the amount of visitors and the surface of the park, the Efteling is the biggest theme park of Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg. Also, the number of visitors is even close to large competitors such as Disneyland Paris in France and Europe-Park in Germany. The park received several awards, such as the award for ‘Best recreational park of Europe’ and the award for ‘Best theme park of the world’.
HISTORY OF THE THEME PARK
The Efteling has its roots in 1933. In these days, it was a sports and hiking park for local residents. Once it got extended with a nature park (later on called the fairytale park), a swimming pool, a playground, a pond and a tea room, the Efteling became a popular hotspot for a day out in the environment. After adding attractions such as rollercoasters and entertainment, the park expanded into an unforgettable experience for young and old. Painter and artist Anton Pieck played an important role in the design of the look and feel of the park.
