Events in the city center

Did you know that Zaltbommel has a rich Hanseatic history ?

In the Middle Ages, Zaltbommel was an important trading city on the Waal and part of the Hanseatic League: a network of cities where trade, hospitality, and connection were central. Ships full of goods came and went, and one product played a notable role in this: Zeeland salt.

Not for nothing was Zaltbommel once called Saltbommel or Sautbommel. The salt was of great economic value to the city and literally gave Bommel flavor to its history.

Even today, that rich history is still visible in the fortified city. Walk along the old city walls, discover the historic streets, admire the Sint-Maartenskerk, and enjoy the cozy atmosphere on the Waal.

This history also lives on at Van der Valk Hotel Zaltbommel-A2. It's no coincidence that our restaurant is named Restaurant SALT: a nod to the city's special trading past.

Combine your visit to historic Zaltbommel with a delicious lunch, extensive dinner or a relaxing overnight stay at Van der Valk Hotel Zaltbommel-A2 and experience for yourself the hospitality for which the city has been known for centuries.
