Zaltbommel Hanzestad

Events in the city center

Did you know that Zaltbommel has a rich Hanseatic history has?
In the Middle Ages, Zaltbommel was an important trading city on the Waal and part of the Hanseatic League: a network of cities where trade, hospitality, and connection were central. Ships full of goods sailed back and forth, and one product played a prominent role in this: Zeeland salt.
It's no surprise that Zaltbommel was formerly also called Saltboomel or Sautbommel. The salt was of great economic value to the city and literally added flavor to Bommel's history.

Go back in time during the Hanzedagen in Zaltbommel!
From June 18 to 21, Zaltbommel will transform into a bustling medieval scene. For four days, everything revolves around the Hanseatic era, with plenty of history, atmosphere, and experience for young and old.

That rich history still lives on today. That's why our restaurant at Van der Valk Hotel Zaltbommel-A2 proudly bears the name Restaurant SALT — a nod to the trading past of our beautiful Hanseatic city.

Come by for a delightful lunch during the Hanzedagen at Restaurant SALT and taste for yourself the flavor of hospitality in the heart of Hanseatic city Zaltbommel.
